Scholarship Program 2026-2027

This scholarship program is for children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of paid CRA Contra Costa Chapter members. The selection criteria are based on academics, achievements, personal insights, and future goals. We have a team of judges made up of two Chapter board members, a CRA national representative, an HR retiree, and an educator. Based on prior year giving and the donation from the Graduates Committee, we anticipate awarding five scholarships for $2000 each for this academic year. The scholarship application will be available on the chapter website in late February.

We suggest that you encourage your children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren to apply for one of the scholarships. Applicants that meet the requirements below should apply by submitting their applications by email (preferred) by May 15, 2026.

Students may apply each year they are eligible, but those who have previously been awarded one of our scholarships are not eligible to reapply. The criteria for eligibility are:

  • Be a child, grandchild or great grandchild of a dues paying member of the chapter.

  • Be age 25 and under.

  • Be enrolled, or plan to be enrolled, in the coming school year in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college or university.

We always appreciate your scholarship donations that you can make through Zelle, PayPal, or by check payable to Chevron Retirees Association, P.O. Box 371, Orinda, CA 94563. Since we started the program in 2005, we have awarded over $148,000 to scholarship recipients. We are so proud of all our scholarship recipients, and we are pleased that our members have supported our program. The individuals we support may be future Chevron leaders!

Scholarship Program Recipients 2026-2027

We had two excellent students apply for scholarships this year, and they both were awarded a $2,000 scholarship. We left a lot of scholarship money on the table because we didn’t get more applicants. Remember that you can apply for a scholarship more than once as long as you meet the qualifications (including not being a previous winner, attending post-secondary school in the Fall, etc.).

Michael Tu

Graduated from the Athenian High School in Danville in June of 2024. He is currently attending Northeastern University as a rising sophomore with a combined major in Business Administration and Health Sciences. As he continues with his education at Northeastern, he strives to explore the relations between healthcare and business and how profit-based mindsets influence a hospital’s decisions when allocating resources and services to patients. Furthermore, Michael also hopes to discover other more discrete factors that play a significant role in how hospitals are able to satisfy the various needs of their patients and the ways in which they determine who to prioritize whilst coming up with methods they can utilize to keep their institutions afloat. In addition to delving into the complexities of the healthcare and business worlds, Michael also has expressed potential interest in pursuing an education as a physician’s assistant, having an intense desire to express a sense of compassion and empathy towards others and discovering ways in which to connect with patients and their loved ones. While pursuing his degree at Northeastern, Michael also seeks to gain more international experience through global travel and interacting with those from a myriad of countries, his interest kindled by his previous experience of studying abroad his first semester freshman year in Madrid via NUin Spain

Chloe Hickey

Throughout high school, I’ve been dedicated to service, leadership, and academics. I ran cross country and track at the JV/Varsity level, mentored teammates, and served as a TA for AP Computer Science Principles. I’ve completed over 600 hours of volunteer work through the National Charity League and Jack and Jill of America, where I held board positions and led community projects. I developed an app blending coding, design, and cybersecurity, and deepened my interest in tech through the Inspirit AI Scholars program and an AI course at Sacramento State. As a member of Black Student Union and National Honor Society, I’ve supported equity and academic excellence. In college, I plan to major in computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence and use technology to create solutions that improve lives.
