For post-retirement employment:
Many retirees earn extra income and remain involved in their occupations by searching for full-time, part-time or project-based work after they leave the Company. Former colleagues and friends are often the best sources for finding local post-retirement opportunities. But, as described in the 1st Quarter 2009 Encore, Chevron’s Alumni Community (http://alumni.chevron.com) online network was launched for retirees to link to regular career opportunities and "Bridges" contract assignments available in Chevron's Upstream, Global Gas and ETC organizations.
In addition, there are a number of organizations -- none officially endorsed by the Chevron Retirees Association -- that offer to connect qualified retirees with rewarding work. These include:
Resources Global Professionals (www.resourcesglobal.com) is a project-based professional services firm with 80 offices in Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia Pacific and North America. RGP focuses on finance, supply chain management, information management, audit, human resources and legal work.
RetirementJobs.com (www.RetirementJobs.com) matches older workers (50 plus) with jobs in these categories: accounting, administrative, business, construction, engineering, executive, facilities, information technology, manufacturing and production.
M2 Consulting, Inc. (www.msquared.com) manages a "community" of 14,000 consultants with expertise in finance and accounting, operations and process, human resources, technology and business intelligence, program and project management, change and risk management.
Swift Technical Group (www.us.swiftoilandgas.com) describes itself as the leading specialist supplier of manpower resources to the global oil and gas industry, with over 25 years focusing exclusively in this sector and a database of 30,000 skilled personnel.
Retired Worker (www.theretiredworker.com) connects employers in Canada to the skills, knowledge and experience of baby boomers.
Encore.org (www.encore.org) serves a growing network of people who want the personal fulfillment of giving back to society along with continued income. Encore.org (not related to CRA’s newsletter) provides news, resources and connections for establishing "encore careers" that combine social contribution, personal meaning and financial security.
For volunteer opportunities:
Numerous resources are also available for retirees who want to use their occupational skills as unpaid volunteers to help non-profit organizations achieve their goals. These include:
Global Village Engineers (www.gvengineers.org) is a non-profit, global program focusing on public infrastructure and environmental projects in rural areas of developing countries. The non-profit recruits experienced engineers to address vital worldwide social, economic and civic needs.
Service Corps of Retired Executives (www.score.org) is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE’s 10,500 members donate their time as business counselors, offering free and confidential advice for entrepreneurs.
American Association of Retired People (www.aarp.org) offers numerous public service opportunities in the web site’s “Make a Difference” sections.
OASIS (www.oasisnet.org) aims to enhance the quality of life for mature adults by offering volunteer service opportunities and challenging educational programs in the arts, humanities, wellness and technology.
