About CRA
The Chevron Retirees Association (CRA) was formed in 1971 as a non-profit, unincorporated association of autonomous clubs to promote the interests and welfare of all retirees, their spouses, and surviving spouses. CRA’s mission is to attract and retain a diverse and multi-cultural, dues-paying membership that brings value to all retirees and to the Corporation. We accomplish our mission through social interaction, education, communication and advocacy of mutually important issues.
Since its founding, CRA has welcomed retirees of Gulf, Texaco, Unocal and other companies that have become part of Chevron. There are about 100 chapters, which includes two in Canada and one for unaffiliated members who live in areas not covered by the other chapters, representing over 51,000 retirees, their spouses and some 11,000 surviving spouses.
What does the CRA do?
A Board of Directors consisting of the President, Secretary, Treasurer, 12 Area Vice Presidents, Chapter Presidents and Past Association Presidents, and Chairs of Standing committees manages the organization.
Association Committees make comprehensive studies and evaluations of member concerns and make recommendations to resolve them in correspondence and in periodic meetings with Company management.
What has the Association accomplished?
The Company and the Association have had a mutually beneficial relationship providing the Association the opportunity to assist the Company in the design of many discretionary benefits, such as:
- Retirement health care plans for retirees, their spouses and surviving spouses;
- Cumulatively significant pension supplements over the years;
- Making former pension supplements a permanent part of the annuity;
- Communications, including the website (www.chevronretirees.org) and the newsletter Encore;
- Public Service Award program encouraging community service; and
- Financial support from Chevron for the CRA's annual meeting and operations.
- In addition, in cooperation with MetLife, a CRA Dental Plan was launched in 2008 and is available to any dues-paying CRA member.
What is the CRA Email Roster?
The CRA maintains an e-mail roster for the exclusive use of the retirees. This roster is provided as a means for retirees to make or maintain contact with old friends and work associates. Its message distribution is restricted to alerting people about issues of vital concern to the company and other important messages of interest to retirees from the company and the CRA leadership.
You do not have to be a dues-paying member of the CRA to be included on the Email Roster. If you would like your email address included, please send an email message to the Roster Coordinator, Charles Patterson, at sanger@aol.com or to Dennis L. Dauphin, Chair-Communications Committee, oceansprings1@aol.com.
Who's eligible to join the CRA?
All retirees of Chevron Corporation and its predecessor companies — including subsidiary and affiliated companies — their spouses and surviving spouses of retirees are considered members of the Association. Eligible retirees include those currently receiving a pension, disability or special compensation, those who elected to take their annuity benefit as a lump-sum payment and those who took a vested retirement benefit. No one currently employed by the company may be a member, although they may attend Association meetings.
Why should I join?
Your participation is needed to continue the excellent relationship and open communications with the company that have evolved over the years. A strong Association, working to further the interests of its members, will remain effective only if retirees like you support the organization’s mission and programs, which means being active and paying dues.
Dues-paying members enjoy many benefits, for example:
- Attending events where you can maintain contact with fellow retirees;
- Keeping up to date on matters of interest through local Chapter newsletters, copies of Encore (CRA's quarterly publication) and Email distributions;
- Keeping advised on Company matters, changes and plans;
- Having an opportunity to provide input on issues of concern to retirees and to be involved in the process of presenting these matters to the Company;
- Using the CRA Benefits Committee to help keep informed about benefit plan changes and to intercede on issues needing attention; and
- Supporting the Company in its relations with the public, government and regulatory agencies.
- Enrolling in the CRA Dental Plan as administered by MetLife.
